….continuation…
Several minutes later, Adi stood outside with her first real meal in days and change in her pocket besides. Her mood lightened to match the beautiful sunny day despite the chilly breeze. She was about to head to the park, when a woman’s voice stopped her.
“Just a minute, young lady!”
Adi whirled around coming face to face with an elderly lady. Her shoulders were stooped as she leaned heavily upon a cane. “I couldn’t help overhearing your conversation with that rude manager. I was on my way to drop some clothing off at a thrift store, but if you’d like, you can sift through the bags first and choose what you’d like. I believe you should be able to find some clothes your size.” The woman gave a warm smile and shuffled off toward her car.
Cautiously, Adi followed. The genteel woman rummaged through her purse while muttering how one can never find anything in purses. Giving a relieved cry, she triumphantly held up her keys and unlocked the door. Stepping back so Adi could take a look, she waved her hand toward the five bags of clothing. “Go on, don’t be shy.”
Eagerly Adi grabbed one bag after another quickly sifting through the clothes. Ten minutes later, Adi stood with a bag of clothing in her arms while still clutching her cooling food. “Thank you, so much!” A tear slipped down Adi’s face.
“I wish I could do more.” The elderly woman sighed sadly.
“You’ve done a great deal! Thank you!” Adi reluctantly turned away. Upon reaching the edge of the parking lot, she turned and gave a small smile and a final wave. With lightness in her step, she headed off towards the park to enjoy her meal.
Michael looked over at the woman and watched as she transformed into a warrior. “Good job, Jordan. Did you know this was the first time Adi has said ‘thank you’?”
Jordan, an angel assigned to Michael’s command, grinned, “Her heart must be softening, sir!”
“Yes, it appears that way. I will never understand why Soterians insist on being broken first before they will listen to the truth. It seems to me that they could avoid a lot of pain if they just set aside their pride in the very beginning.” Michael gave an exasperated sigh rolling his eyes.
A loud beating of wings and a rush of air swept over them. Looking up they saw an angry Arman catching up with Adi. Before Michael could move to follow, a brilliant light descended before him. Squinting against the brightness, Michael recognized Gabriel.
“Michael, I have a message for you from Matthew,” Gabriel announced.
“What is it?”
“He wishes to speak with Adi at the park. Your orders are to engage the enemy.”
